Disclosures: Who Pays Whom

  • Franchise consultants are usually paid by franchisors, which is why their help is free to buyers.
  • This site may be paid by consultants or consultant networks when we introduce a buyer to them.
  • No one pays to change what our guides say, and we never publish earnings claims about any franchise.

These disclosures explain how money moves between buyers, franchise consultants, franchisors and this website, so you can judge everything you read here with the incentives in plain view. If anything on this page is unclear, email us at hello@franchiseconsultantsandbrokers.com.

Quick answer

Buyers pay nothing to use this site or the consultants we introduce. Consultants are typically paid by the franchisor when a client they introduced buys a franchise, and we may be paid by consultants for introductions or for clearly labelled featured placements.

Who we are

Franchise Consultants and Brokers is an independent information and matching website. We publish guides about how franchise consultants and brokers work, and we run a free match quiz that introduces buyers to a consultant.

We are not a franchisor. We do not sell franchises, we do not represent any franchise brand, and we are not a law firm, accounting firm or investment adviser. Nothing on this site is legal, tax or investment advice.

How franchise consultants are paid

Most franchise consultants (also called brokers or coaches) are paid by franchisors. When a buyer they introduced signs a franchise agreement, the franchisor pays the consultant a fee. That is why consultants usually charge buyers nothing.

This model has a direct effect on what you see: a consultant can only present brands that have agreed to work with them. Brands that do not pay consultants will not appear in their recommendations. Our guide how franchise consultants get paid explains this in detail, including the questions to ask any consultant.

How this site makes money

When you complete the free franchise match, we share your answers with the consultant we match you with. We may be paid by that consultant or their network for the introduction, or a consultant may pay us a flat fee to receive introductions in a state or city.

A consultant who pays for extra visibility on this site is labelled Featured everywhere they appear. We do not sell rankings, scores or reviews, and we do not show ratings for any consultant or network.

Editorial independence

  • Payments never change what a guide says. Consultants, networks and franchisors cannot buy or edit our articles.
  • Every number in a guide carries a named source, listed at the bottom of the page.
  • We never state or imply earnings, profits or returns for any franchise. For financial performance, read Item 19 of the brand’s Franchise Disclosure Document, if the franchisor provides one.
  • Investment ranges come from the franchisor’s disclosure documents or publications that cite them, with the year named.
  • Companies we write about can ask for a correction or reply by emailing hello@franchiseconsultantsandbrokers.com. We review every request and update the page when a fact is wrong.

Before you buy any franchise

Read the brand’s Franchise Disclosure Document in full, call current and former franchise owners listed in it, and have a franchise attorney and an accountant review the deal before you sign or pay anything. A consultant can guide you through the process, but the decision and the due diligence are yours.
